Fall Trend Alert

Well, summer is officially over and fall is officially here.  One of my favorite parts of the beginning of a new season is all the new styles that start to hit the stores, magazines and medias.  It gets me pretty excited…my eyes start darting around like a crazy women. Weird, I know -ha!

It’s for this reason that I love to “putz” around online and see what various stores are forecasting as trends for the coming season.  And guess what?!?!  SHOPBOP had shirt dresses as one of their 10 essentials for the fall!  I’m so freaking excited, because I already have one in my closet!  I purchased this shirtdress a couple of years ago, you may remember it from this post. This time I gave it a more casual/sporty look.  Truth be told, I was disguising three day hair under that hat- ha!

Shirt dress- H&M for similar, Cardigan- J.Crew, Hat- Lids, Sneakers- J.Crew, Bag- Madewell, Watch- Michael Kors, Earrings- Argento Vivo

Here are a few of my favorite shirt dresses.  I especially like the ones from Old Navy and Burning Torch.

And for those of us in the midwest (as well as mid-forties), don’t you think you can pair it with calf-length leggings? Flats, boots, endless possibilities that are all comfortable!

I bet you could, just try it around the house first. Or, send a selfie to a friend and get their honest opinion. Thanks for your comment!

Trying it around the house first is a great idea. I’ll do that and see what kind of looks my hubby gives me! 🙂 Thanks!

Great look! I have a similar dress on today and never thought to wear it with anything other than sandals in the summer! I love your blog and all the inspiration – have followed you for a while. Now, if you are looking for a topic, I need some style advice and would love your thoughts!! We have dinner on Sat evening with an older/retiring couple who may be passing business along to my hubby. We are going to a very nice Atlanta restaurant. I would know what to wear if it wasn’t for the other couple. I’m thinking some sort of dress but want something different than my normal LBD. Any suggestions?

Emelie, I hope your dinner goes well! I think an LBD is a perfect option. You could also do a black pencil skirt with a pretty silk blouse tucked in. I hope this helps. Thanks for your comment.

love this look! I love shirt dresses. Saw a style on Lands’ End that I was very intrigued by. They call it “urban athlete” and it’s chic sweatshirts and cool sneaks and slim pants. I’m definitely inspired by the new styles!

Do you want new hair growth in your eyebrows? I ha Do you want new hair growth in your eyebrows? I have a trick, and no, it’s not an expensive hair growth serum! It’s Castor Oil, so it’s all natural and inexpensive. Apparently, it’s been used for thousands of years dating back to ancient Egypt. Ok, and I use it on my eyelashes, too, but I’m doing that at my own risk. I don’t want to recommend this practice, since I don’t really know what it’s going to do to my eyesight. I know, call me crazy- it’s fine.

Thanks to my friend, Michelle for telling me about this little trick!

I attended a funeral today of a friend who died of I attended a funeral today of a friend who died of mental illness. If my friend is strong enough to stand at the podium and talk about her husband and the hope her family has in the midst of their darkest days, then I want to honor both of them by telling you about my struggle with mental illness. My friend mentioned that many of her husband’s closest friends had no idea that he’d been struggling with mental illness for 3 years, and I realized that many of you, and probably some of my closest friends don’t know how long and hard my struggle has been with mental illness. For me my mental illness wasn’t the kind where I couldn’t get out of bed or out of the house, which would make it hard to tell I was struggling. For me it looked more like battling through the day and struggling with my own self condemning thoughts and emotions - shaming myself for being happy one minute and sad the next, or for not being happy all the time, looking around at all my blessings and not feeling gratitude, which made me feel like there was something wrong with me. It was hard to get excited. On some days I walked around feeling like a scared puppy in a big bad world with my emotions right at the surface. For me, my faith is very important to me, and I knew this was not the life God had for me, so I started to pray for help and deliverance. God started to lead me to help in a whole bunch of different forms, counselors, health practitioners, friends, medicine, trauma therapy, EMDR, books, excercise, the support of family, and most importantly, Christ and His word.
For me, it was over a 10 year battle probably because I was overcoming a lot of trauma being raised by an alcoholic mom. But for you it may be longer or shorter or this isn’t something you struggle with at all (hallelujah!). If you do, your emotions and your struggle may be different. But I’m here to say, you’re loved. You are loved by God and by so many of the people around you. Don’t give up. Dig in and fight the battle that’s happening in your mind. Fight it like you would if you had cancer. #mentalhealth #mentalhealthawareness #mentalillness #mentalhealthmatters

Takes me right back to my middle school days, and I’m not sad about it! And yes, that’s what my closet looked like after trying to figure those outfits out, but it was fun! 🤷🏼‍♀️

How to get the cuffed denim look without buying a How to get the cuffed denim look without buying a new pair of jeans! You don’t need to buy a new pair of jeans to get the cuffed denim look! Just grab a pair of straight leg jeans from your closet, cuff them to be about an inch or 2 above the top of your ankle bone and use the nifty little gadget from this tutorial. Viola! Plus, the cuffed denim length makes it a heck of a lot easier to wear most of the shoes in your closet! #winning
