You know those trends that leave you scratching your head? Kinda like I’m doing right now with white booties… Ha! Well, I distinctly remember a conversation I had with a friend almost a year ago about the crop denim flare trend. Is it really coming back? Is it for the mature crowd? It looks hideous… Hahahaha!
As with most trends, I always hang back for a little bit and see if I can own it. I think a year ago I couldn’t own this trend, but after really wanting something different in my denim repertoire, I pushed myself a bit. I ordered a pair from Nordstrom because I knew I could return them easily if I decided to bail on the trend. When I first put this outfit on, I sent a pic to my sis, aunt and cousins to see if they thought it looked right. I just needed that extra boost of confidence that girlfriends provide. They all gave me the thumbs up, so I was in! My aunt even said, “It’s funky and fun, and it’s what’s in.” She’s cool like that.
My husband even complimented this outfit. Boom. For some reason, I feel really hip in this outfit now. Maybe it’s because I’m embracing a trend I thought I couldn’t do, pr maybe it’s because I feel a bit Parisian -ha!

Well, you would never know I was apprehensive. I’ve been wearing these jeans non-stop, so when Nordstrom asked me to share something I’m loving from their store, it was pretty clear what it was going to be.
Check it out:
Here I am wearing them with sneakers and my new leather jacket…

I also love this less expensive cropped denim flare option by Madewell!
Now, if this trend is not for you, no problemo. One does not have to embrace every trend to be stylish. Just ask Oscar de la Renta!

Would you say this works for shorter people, too? Looks great on you and your long legs, but not so sure about me and my 5’3” frame.
Carly Lee says
I love this question! I have a friend who is shorter than me, and I prefer the way they look on her! Ha!

Hi there , I’m a jeans lover and always looking for something new . This trend however is one I don’t think I can do , I’m 5’9 with muscular calves and I feel like it it cuts me off at the worst spot. The outside look adorable and I love your blog. Simple, classy and fun!
Carly Lee says
I know the feeling. Maybe try playing with different lengths… or just ditch the trend. Ha!

You look great! I am loving this denim trend. Cropped, high waisted with a top, sweater tucked in. Also loving the pendant necklace hanging on the outside of an outfit. Obsessed with gold pendant necklaces at the mo.

Cute!

Love this post! I bought a pair weeks ago and haven’t worn them yet because I’ve struggled with how to style them well. How do you think it would work with a more casual, lower heeled bootie? yay or nay?
Carly Lee says
This is hard to answer without seeing. Conceptually, I think it’s a yay. Try it on and send a pic to a couple of stylish friends to get their take. That’s what I do! Ha!

So glad you posted on this! You look great and I love it with the taller black booties. (I still don’t think I could pull it off, but I’m glad you tried it!!)
Carly Lee says
That’s my favorite look, too!
Beth says
Ideally, where should these hit on the leg?
Carly Lee says
Hi Beth! I hope you are doing great! Mid ankle is ideal.
