Guess what was the one of the most popular items sold on eBay last year, with over 57,000 sold (source here)? Guess what item Nordstrom has on its top ten trends of 2018? Did you guess it? It’s the fanny pack! Ok, ok, they’re now calling it a belt bag, but I have a fondness for the 80’s and really want to call it a fanny pack. I will say, they are a tad cooler looking than a traditional fanny pack.

Here’s the thing, I think fanny packs were popular because they made sense! Sometimes you don’t want to carry a purse and sometimes you can’t- like to a concert, a sporting event, Disney World, antiquing, wine tasting (it worked perfect for this), etc! Or let’s say you are in a profession where you need items on you at all times, like if you are a wedding planner! Fanny packs (aka belt bags) are just practical, and I am so glad they are back!
Can this not be a trend?!? I want it to stick around! I’d really like to buy this one, or I’ll copy my friend and find a designer one on eBay!
I recently purchased the belt bag pictured for a talk I was giving to AWP (Association of Wedding Planners). I like this one specifically because it’s versatile (black goes with everything), and I like that I have the option to make it a cross-body bag if I want to.

Carly, I love it! It’s so practical. Please post more photos so we can see options that you have seen. Sometimes my large bags get so heavy, and they are impossible to take everywhere. I used one of these, in black, all through Europe because it is less cumbersome, and makes a person a less obvious target of theft. I like your black one, but the same one in blush pink on Nordstrom is really cute, too. Thanks for the tip!
