Starting Over – A List of Spring Wardrobe Staples

I had the pleasure and honor of helping a client start over with an entirely new wardrobe last Friday. We first started off with a list of spring wardrobe staples (above) and shopped from there. Even if you aren’t starting over with a new wardrobe, I bet we can all get excited thinking and wondering what it might be like to start over completely from scratch. Or, at least be curious about what staples we could add to our current wardrobe to make it more functional and well rounded, instead of just buying stuff…at least to me- ha! So, y’all give a BIG thanks to my client, since she has allowed me to share what we found with you all. For sizing reference, my client is 5′ 6″.

Here’s our list of staples and the items we found:

BOTTOMS:

  • Dressier pair of black skinny jeans (work appropriate)- Frame Le High Skinny
  • Dressier pair of dark blue skinny jeans (work appropriate)- Farrah High Waist Skinny Jean or Rag & Bone Nina High Waist Ankle Skinny Jean
  • Casual pair of jeans- 7 For All Mankind High Waist Skinny Jean and Frame Le High Skinny Ankle Jean
  • White pair of jeans- Madewell 9 Inch Skinny Jean
  • Black and navy work pants- Rag & Bone Simone pant
  • Black pencil skirt- J. Crew No. 2 Pencil Skirt in Stretch Twill
  • Little black dress- Didn’t find, but I love this one.

TOPS:

  • Black, navy and white blazer- For a casual blazer look, we found the J. Crew Sophie Open-front Sweater Blazer (size way down) in black, grey and cream. For a dressier blazer, we found the J. Crew Going Out Blazer in Stretch Twill.
  • Outerwear Layer- Trench coat, or my current favorite, sweater coats!
  • Work/Going Out Tops (aka Easy Tops): J. Crew Drapey Band Collar Top, Long-sleeve ruffle neck top, Margo Crewneck Sweater. I also recommended RTR. And others, but I can’t remember them all… eeekk, sorry.
  • Basic Tees- Rag & Bone Hudson tee (size down)
  • Black camisole- St. John Collection Tie Stretch Silk Shell

SHOES:

  • Casual tennis shoes- VINCE
  • Black heels- Mark Fisher
  • Booties (that can transition into spring)-  I recommended this pair.
  • Casual sandal- We didn’t find any because the stores aren’t stocking sandals yet.
  • Dressy sandal- We didn’t find any because the stores aren’t stocking sandals yet.

OTHER:

  • Supportive Bra: Natori and Simone Perele  (for larger chests)

Do you want new hair growth in your eyebrows? I ha Do you want new hair growth in your eyebrows? I have a trick, and no, it’s not an expensive hair growth serum! It’s Castor Oil, so it’s all natural and inexpensive. Apparently, it’s been used for thousands of years dating back to ancient Egypt. Ok, and I use it on my eyelashes, too, but I’m doing that at my own risk. I don’t want to recommend this practice, since I don’t really know what it’s going to do to my eyesight. I know, call me crazy- it’s fine.

Thanks to my friend, Michelle for telling me about this little trick!

Comment “oil” for links to both the Castor Oil and the wands I use. #beautytips #beauty #eyebrows #beautyproducts
I attended a funeral today of a friend who died of I attended a funeral today of a friend who died of mental illness. If my friend is strong enough to stand at the podium and talk about her husband and the hope her family has in the midst of their darkest days, then I want to honor both of them by telling you about my struggle with mental illness. My friend mentioned that many of her husband’s closest friends had no idea that he’d been struggling with mental illness for 3 years, and I realized that many of you, and probably some of my closest friends don’t know how long and hard my struggle has been with mental illness. For me my mental illness wasn’t the kind where I couldn’t get out of bed or out of the house, which would make it hard to tell I was struggling. For me it looked more like battling through the day and struggling with my own self condemning thoughts and emotions - shaming myself for being happy one minute and sad the next, or for not being happy all the time, looking around at all my blessings and not feeling gratitude, which made me feel like there was something wrong with me. It was hard to get excited. On some days I walked around feeling like a scared puppy in a big bad world with my emotions right at the surface. For me, my faith is very important to me, and I knew this was not the life God had for me, so I started to pray for help and deliverance. God started to lead me to help in a whole bunch of different forms, counselors, health practitioners, friends, medicine, trauma therapy, EMDR, books, excercise, the support of family, and most importantly, Christ and His word.
For me, it was over a 10 year battle probably because I was overcoming a lot of trauma being raised by an alcoholic mom. But for you it may be longer or shorter or this isn’t something you struggle with at all (hallelujah!). If you do, your emotions and your struggle may be different. But I’m here to say, you’re loved. You are loved by God and by so many of the people around you. Don’t give up. Dig in and fight the battle that’s happening in your mind. Fight it like you would if you had cancer. #mentalhealth #mentalhealthawareness #mentalillness #mentalhealthmatters
I had fun taking this outfit from day to night by I had fun taking this outfit from day to night by swapping out my denim skirt for my leather skirt!! I’m also totally digging socks with loafers. Takes me right back to my middle school days, and I’m not sad about it! And yes, that’s what my closet looked like after trying to figure those outfits out, but it was fun! 🤷🏼‍♀️

How to get the cuffed denim look without buying a How to get the cuffed denim look without buying a new pair of jeans! You don’t need to buy a new pair of jeans to get the cuffed denim look! Just grab a pair of straight leg jeans from your closet, cuff them to be about an inch or 2 above the top of your ankle bone and use the nifty little gadget from this tutorial. Viola! Plus, the cuffed denim length makes it a heck of a lot easier to wear most of the shoes in your closet! #winning
