Country Home Metal Building Project

See the yellow shed on the right in the photo? It’s chock-full of all the things needed for a country property, and it’s about to fall down. No seriously, the roof caved in on the inside. 🤣 So, we need a metal building.

Now, this is what most metal buildings look like…

But this is what I envision our metal building looking like…

Now, I know this is a bit unrealistic (because these are wood barns, and we are building a metal building), but a girl can dream!! So I’m using the barns as my inspiration! I want it to match (or look like it goes with) our farmhouse.

We (my dad and I) started off with a basic sketch of the structure. In this picture, he drew two different cupola sizes for me to decide between. I decided on the 3’ ft cupola. There will be a total of 6 garage doors– 3 on each side. I hope it will feel like an open air building when you open all 6 doors.

Now to make the building pretty… I knew I wanted a clean farmhouse look, so we decided on gooseneck lights and divided-light doors and windows. Here’s a drawing of the front of the metal building when we were trying to decide which divided-light pattern to go with for the windows and the gooseneck light placement…

We decided to go with the window on the left of the double doors. And just in case you are looking for really great doors for a really great price, we found this door at Home Depot. I’m in love with it! It will have windows that go all the way down (a 2×4 window pattern), but this is basically the door.

Now, for the garage doors. Dad and I headed out to Halo Overhead Doors to check out their warehouse full of garage doors…

…and we found a white garage door that matched the white metal building. That’s my dad holding the metal building sheet on the left. He’s the best. I didn’t really like the carriage door look, since it’s not really a carriage house. So, after lots and lots of hemming and hawing (by me), we decided on this garage door.

After our garage door selection, my dad plugged it into his drawing, and I couldn’t be happier with the result! Have you ever seen prettier garage doors?!? If you have, don’t tell me. Hahaha!

Next step is designing the inside. For the bathroom, I’m taking inspiration from @miracleonthirtyfourth! Check out her son’s bathroom…

I forgot to tell y’all, my dad is an engineer! I’d be lost without him! After all this is said and done, I think I’m going to do something special with all his drawings! Let me know in the comments if you have any creative ideas of what to do with them!

Ok, that’s all for now! I’ll keep you updated as we make more progress on this project!

Do you want new hair growth in your eyebrows? I ha Do you want new hair growth in your eyebrows? I have a trick, and no, it’s not an expensive hair growth serum! It’s Castor Oil, so it’s all natural and inexpensive. Apparently, it’s been used for thousands of years dating back to ancient Egypt. Ok, and I use it on my eyelashes, too, but I’m doing that at my own risk. I don’t want to recommend this practice, since I don’t really know what it’s going to do to my eyesight. I know, call me crazy- it’s fine.

Thanks to my friend, Michelle for telling me about this little trick!

I attended a funeral today of a friend who died of I attended a funeral today of a friend who died of mental illness. If my friend is strong enough to stand at the podium and talk about her husband and the hope her family has in the midst of their darkest days, then I want to honor both of them by telling you about my struggle with mental illness. My friend mentioned that many of her husband’s closest friends had no idea that he’d been struggling with mental illness for 3 years, and I realized that many of you, and probably some of my closest friends don’t know how long and hard my struggle has been with mental illness. For me my mental illness wasn’t the kind where I couldn’t get out of bed or out of the house, which would make it hard to tell I was struggling. For me it looked more like battling through the day and struggling with my own self condemning thoughts and emotions - shaming myself for being happy one minute and sad the next, or for not being happy all the time, looking around at all my blessings and not feeling gratitude, which made me feel like there was something wrong with me. It was hard to get excited. On some days I walked around feeling like a scared puppy in a big bad world with my emotions right at the surface. For me, my faith is very important to me, and I knew this was not the life God had for me, so I started to pray for help and deliverance. God started to lead me to help in a whole bunch of different forms, counselors, health practitioners, friends, medicine, trauma therapy, EMDR, books, excercise, the support of family, and most importantly, Christ and His word.
For me, it was over a 10 year battle probably because I was overcoming a lot of trauma being raised by an alcoholic mom. But for you it may be longer or shorter or this isn’t something you struggle with at all (hallelujah!). If you do, your emotions and your struggle may be different. But I’m here to say, you’re loved. You are loved by God and by so many of the people around you. Don’t give up. Dig in and fight the battle that’s happening in your mind. Fight it like you would if you had cancer. #mentalhealth #mentalhealthawareness #mentalillness #mentalhealthmatters

Takes me right back to my middle school days, and I’m not sad about it! And yes, that’s what my closet looked like after trying to figure those outfits out, but it was fun! 🤷🏼‍♀️

How to get the cuffed denim look without buying a How to get the cuffed denim look without buying a new pair of jeans! You don’t need to buy a new pair of jeans to get the cuffed denim look! Just grab a pair of straight leg jeans from your closet, cuff them to be about an inch or 2 above the top of your ankle bone and use the nifty little gadget from this tutorial. Viola! Plus, the cuffed denim length makes it a heck of a lot easier to wear most of the shoes in your closet! #winning
