A reader recently asked if I had any suggestions of brands for tall girls or anything else she might be missing.
She had already named a lot of the brands that have tall offerings (Gap, Athleta, JCrew, Banana Republic, Long Tall Sally, JCPenney, Old Navy), so I wanted to share a few helpful style tips for tall girls!
4 Style Tips for Tall Gals:
1. Check out the model’s height. A lot of sites now say how tall the models are, which is very helpful to know how things might fit you. If the model is 5′ 9″ and I see a swimsuit is pulling or a skirt is too short on her, then I know it’s not for me. I use this feature all the time!
2. Use different styles and cuts to your advantage. For instance, if you’re looking for a cropped flare, try normal length. Also, the midi skirt may be the perfect length for you! It might hit you right at your knee. Also, tankinis and high waisted bottoms are great for ladies who are taller or have longer torsos.
3. Get creative. If you love a jumpsuit but don’t like the capri length or where it hits on your leg, cut them and make them into shorts (see what I did to this denim romper below). You can also cut, tie or knot tunics into the length that works for you. Buy longer shorts and cut them to the length you like! Have fun making it work!
4. Know your preferred measurements. It’s helpful to know the measurements (inseams, skirt length) you prefer, so you can shop accordingly. But don’t forget you can always roll or cut the hem to make the item work. Especially if you really love it!
