My Christmas Table

Noel Canape PlateApparently humans aren’t the only things I like to dress- ha! I like to dress all sorts of things, like tables, mantles, and Christmas trees! That is, when I have the time. Luckily for me, when I hosted a dinner party for 16 friends recently, my sister and brother-in-law took my boys, so I was able to spend all day dressing my table and house! And yes, it took all day! My husband and I love to have friends over for dinner. I’ve picked up a few tricks along the way, so I thought I’d share a few of them just in case you need a little Christmas table inspo.Noel Canape PlateThe only dishes I had 16 of, that were somewhat mathcing, were blue-and-white and red-and-white plates of my mom’s. As my husband put it, “Blue and white? That’s not very Christmassy.” So I went straight to work trying to figure out how to make blue and white plates Christmassy. Then I found these…

Nutcracker “canapé plates” at Anthropologie. I love Anthropologie for whimsical, interesting, fun (not stuffy) pieces for entertaining. I decided I would use the canapé plates as my salad plates. I like to break rules when dressing my tables as well. Ha!

Noel Canape PlateI laid out the red and blue plates in a variety of combinations, and in the end, I decided I liked them at the end of the table with my gold chargers. I only had 12 silver chargers, so that worked well! I found this table runner at Pottery Barn, and it helped tie in the red plates. I found this Christmas plaid ribbon in my decoration boxes, and I loved how it tied in the blue.

I decided to wrap the ribbon around the poinsettias I found at the grocery store. I like flowers that are low so you can see the person on the other side of the table.

Noel Canape PlateI love the Barefoot Contessa, and I love to read all of her entertaining tips. My favorite tip of her’s is how she recommends putting the talkative people in the center of the table. It works like a charm. For table placements, I used my wine glass writers. This time I used the gold, but I like the green pen best.

Noel Canape PlateI put a few table topic cards under each charger. I’m obsessed. I like “deep” conversations, and table topics are a sure bet! I recently learned from a friend that you are not supposed to put the napkins under the forks. Oh well -ha! But looking back on it, the napkins under the salad plate would look pretty. Some of my favorite memories with my family and friends are around our table! I can’t wait to make more memories this Christmas. I hope you have a wonderful Christmas and found a little inspiration from this post.
