Let’s just focus on the outfit and not the look on my face. Hahaha! Do you notice anything weird about this outfit? Ok, I’m kinda holding the purse strangely, but that’s not it. Ha! Look realllyyyyy hard. Ok, look at my pants above my booties. Hmmmm, my pants are a little bunched up at the ankle, right? Well, the point of this is that you didn’t notice until I pointed it out, and if you did notice, you had to look really hard!!!
Recently, on a girls night out, my girlfriend got in the car wearing similar booties and asked me how her pants were supposed to look above the boot. Then I received an email from I reader (Hi, Nicole- thanks for the inspo) asking how to wear booties with jeans. And then my sis said she almost stopped wearing her booties all together because she doesn’t feel like she’s wearing them right. Nooooooo!!!!!
Here are a few tips on how to wear booties:
But first let me say, no one really notices what’s going on above the booties. Chances are it looks great, and you don’t need to worry yourself with it.
- If your jeans/pants bunch at the ankle while wearing flats, they’re going to bunch at the ankle with booties and should be hemmed. I’m talking about a big bunch. The kind of bunch that makes that area look thicker and doesn’t allow for a long, lean line from head to toe (regardless of the shoe). P.S. No time to hem? Just cut them. My sis, cousin and I do! Post here. Also, if you are petite, order ankle length jeans. They are shorter!
- It’s ok for your ankle to show. (Unless it’s freezing outside and you don’t want a frostbite ankle ring. Ha! Solution here)
- It’s ok to cuff or fold your pants above the bootie as long as it doesn’t bunch and add lots of thickness.
- It’s ok to stuff your pants into the bootie, like I did in the picture. You can still see an ankle.
- It’s ok if your pants get caddiwampus and some of your pant comes out of the bootie and some stays in. Just adjust it if you can, and it’s no big deal if you can’t. Remember, no one really notices anyway.
- Jeans/pants that show the ankle are best for booties, like skinny jeans (tight around the ankle), crop ankle flare (shows off the ankle), or a wide leg crop (also shows ankle). That is, if you want to show off the booties. Otherwise, you can wear long flare jeans with booties, you just won’t see them.
Now, this post is meant to be encouraging. I don’t want you to feel like you’ve been wearing your booties wrong. Like I said, nobody really notices anyway! It’s true! I don’t notice unless you ask me to notice.
MAIN POINT:
When wearing booties, you want a long, lean line from head to toe. You can adjust anything that breaks up that line for maximum visual impact.
Side note: This sweater is so soft and snuggly. It’s like I’m wearing a Barefoot Dreams blanket around. P.S. It’s supposed to be worn and pilly. That’s the look.
Here’s to wearing your booties with confidence! They look great, they really do.

Great tip about trying petite-size pants. I am not petite, but have a long torso and short legs. So, I recently discovered that petite pants fit lengthwise so much better.
I LOVE your blog CStyle!
