I don’t know if it’s just me, but when it comes to fashion, layering kinda intimidates me. I don’t know if it’s just the word layering that intimidates me because I like simple outfits, or if I’m intimidated because I envision a perfectly layered Parisian girl from one of my Pinterest pins. Well, I’ve recently realized that, either way, it’s not that hard! Often times, my layers just come together out of necessity, like in Monday’s post. I just throw on the layer for warmth, and low and behold, it looks great. But one of my big realizations lately is how often I use one specific item for layering. Three cheers for the button down shirt! Button downs make layering simple. You can wear them under anything, and I think they make everything look better! I can’t tell you how often I’ve worn my chambray shirts recently. I have two- one in a lighter wash and one that’s darker. With this outfit, I wore the lighter one to contrast my jeans.

I also love wearing oxfords of any pattern/color under sweaters, sleeveless dresses, long sleeve dresses, other button down shirts, sweatshirts, cardigans… you name it! They work under anything! In fact, the other night, I wore a long sleeved, cold shoulder button down (remember it from the NSale?) under a sweater. I took off my sweater when we got to the restaurant, and I loved having my fun, cold shoulder top on in the freezing winter. Anyway, all that to say, I’ve made layering way more complicated in my mind than it needs to be. All I need to do is put on a button down shirt, and 9 times out of 10, it works out! Now that’s winter layering made easy!
