A Trip to Maine

J. Crew Tops

I absolutely love shopping for vacations! Love it! There’s something about enjoying the anticipation of a vacation through shopping that I love- the daydreaming, the anticipation, the excitement. This explains why I love to shop for others who are going on vacation so much. It’s almost like I get to go on a mini vacation in my mind!

My mother-in-law is headed to Maine for a month. She loves that area of the country, so she found a cute cottage on a rental site and booked it for a month. How cool is that? For her birthday/Mother’s Day, I decided to shop for her trip! She is an avid reader of C. Style and has been such a blessing to me. She is my number 1 fan, always readily giving out compliments and encouragement, which I can get all teary eyed over. She’s always reading the latest C. Style posts, and we like to discuss them, so I know her style requirements pretty well. I know she’s not a big fan of v-necks, she prefers her shirts looser because of her insulin pump, and she prefers her arms to be mostly covered.

Well, I was excited to find shirts that fit all three requirements. Plus, they are lightweight, darling and perfect for a vacation in Maine! Hello, navy and white nautical stripe tee! Hello, pink linen lightweight shirt! Hello, navy cotton, softest shirt you’ve ever felt in your entire life (I had to buy myself one)! What I love about all of these tops is that they would go perfectly with white jeans or white shorts. I bought her a pair of navy blue stud earrings (she prefers studs) to tie it all together! Boom! All packed for Maine! See, I feel like I’ve just been to the coast of Maine in a navy and white stripe tee, walked the streets of a cute town in the pink linen shirt, and eaten lobster in my navy lightweight shirt!

Wow – now I’m all teary-eyed! I cannot tell you how much I love the clothes you picked out for me Carly, CStyle! I know my son didn’t pick you out for me, his mother, but you have been the biggest blessing ever!! Not liking to shop (weird as that is…) I have needed you desperately. My favorite is the striped tee! Already worn it over and over.
You are blessing the world, one mother-in-law at a time!! 🙂

    a. Sweet, thoughtful daugther-in-law! b. Adorable, fun tops and love the earring you put with them. Love how that one accessory ties all the tops together. c. You nailed the clothing requirements {loose, covered arms yet still cute} that all of us ladies over a certain age want. d. And lastly, I love how you lay out these posts ~ with the tops all together. It helps me “see” the overall plan. Btw, I also love Maine; how wonderful that your mom-in-law is there for a month during their glorious summer time!

Awwww! Just had to comment on your comments! How blessed both of you are. I only had my mother-in-law for four years and while it was short, she set me up with a lifetime’s worth of wisdom, love and great memories. I’m so glad that you two enjoy one another so much; how rewarding for your husband/son and special for your sons/grandsons. Enjoy your month in Maine😀

So sweet! Isn’t God so good that in various ways He gives good “mothers” to those of us who have had a hard time with our own biological mother? Like you, I have the most wonderful mother-in-law who has shown me what real unconditional love looks like. She is my encourager and champion. I also have friends who are a little more ‘mature’ than I am who have mothered me in tender ways and have been examples to me of how to raise my own children in a loving home.
I continue to love your blog and your authenticity. xoxo

Do you want new hair growth in your eyebrows? I ha Do you want new hair growth in your eyebrows? I have a trick, and no, it’s not an expensive hair growth serum! It’s Castor Oil, so it’s all natural and inexpensive. Apparently, it’s been used for thousands of years dating back to ancient Egypt. Ok, and I use it on my eyelashes, too, but I’m doing that at my own risk. I don’t want to recommend this practice, since I don’t really know what it’s going to do to my eyesight. I know, call me crazy- it’s fine.

Thanks to my friend, Michelle for telling me about this little trick!

Comment “oil” for links to both the Castor Oil and the wands I use. #beautytips #beauty #eyebrows #beautyproducts
I attended a funeral today of a friend who died of I attended a funeral today of a friend who died of mental illness. If my friend is strong enough to stand at the podium and talk about her husband and the hope her family has in the midst of their darkest days, then I want to honor both of them by telling you about my struggle with mental illness. My friend mentioned that many of her husband’s closest friends had no idea that he’d been struggling with mental illness for 3 years, and I realized that many of you, and probably some of my closest friends don’t know how long and hard my struggle has been with mental illness. For me my mental illness wasn’t the kind where I couldn’t get out of bed or out of the house, which would make it hard to tell I was struggling. For me it looked more like battling through the day and struggling with my own self condemning thoughts and emotions - shaming myself for being happy one minute and sad the next, or for not being happy all the time, looking around at all my blessings and not feeling gratitude, which made me feel like there was something wrong with me. It was hard to get excited. On some days I walked around feeling like a scared puppy in a big bad world with my emotions right at the surface. For me, my faith is very important to me, and I knew this was not the life God had for me, so I started to pray for help and deliverance. God started to lead me to help in a whole bunch of different forms, counselors, health practitioners, friends, medicine, trauma therapy, EMDR, books, excercise, the support of family, and most importantly, Christ and His word.
For me, it was over a 10 year battle probably because I was overcoming a lot of trauma being raised by an alcoholic mom. But for you it may be longer or shorter or this isn’t something you struggle with at all (hallelujah!). If you do, your emotions and your struggle may be different. But I’m here to say, you’re loved. You are loved by God and by so many of the people around you. Don’t give up. Dig in and fight the battle that’s happening in your mind. Fight it like you would if you had cancer. #mentalhealth #mentalhealthawareness #mentalillness #mentalhealthmatters

How to get the cuffed denim look without buying a How to get the cuffed denim look without buying a new pair of jeans! You don’t need to buy a new pair of jeans to get the cuffed denim look! Just grab a pair of straight leg jeans from your closet, cuff them to be about an inch or 2 above the top of your ankle bone and use the nifty little gadget from this tutorial. Viola! Plus, the cuffed denim length makes it a heck of a lot easier to wear most of the shoes in your closet! #winning
