I’ve been waiting to share this tip/trick since I was 8 years old. I’ll never forget the moment that I first saw it in action. I was in the bedding department of Dillard’s with my mom and sister, when I saw this lady walk through the sea of pretty Ralph Lauren bedspreads in a blue and white sundress (I swear, she matched one of the RL comforters) paired with an amazing black leather jacket and black leather boots. This moment is forever seared in my brain. Think I like style much? Ha! It’s the perfect way to continue wearing your sundresses during the fall and winter! I’ve wanted to do something similar ever since, and the day is here!
I have always loved this Rebecca Taylor dress (last seen here), and I started freaking out when I saw that my friend and fellow blogger, Lauren, had it in her closet! (More on this later.) Immediately, I grabbed her black leather jacket and black heels to show her this amazing trick! I got so excited to share that I was practically jumping up and down, giddy with excitement. And since Lauren is one of the sweetest people you’ll ever meet, she offered to let me borrow the dress for an event I had coming up. Well, I did not argue, not even for a minute! Can we all go back to college when we borrowed clothes from each other all the time?! It was so fun!
Pairing your favorite pieces from summer/spring with black accessories is an easy way to get more wear out of your favorite pieces. I purchased these black earrings with just this in mind! In this case, instead of chunky black booties, I opted for whimsical bow flats to match the feel of the dress. Although, in hindsight, I think chunky black booties would look amazing!
Moral of the story- grab your favorite spring/summer pieces and pair them with black accessories to get more wear out of them. Plus, you will look amazingly chic!

In real life…
It was too hot to wear the black jacket, so I opted for a black clutch instead!

The timing on this is so helpful! Just earlier this week, I thought about trying a strapless, off-white, floral appliqué dress with simple black-strapped heels and dangly smoky/black earrings for our anniversary dinner on Saturday night. My leather jacket is dark green and didn’t work, but my black Topshop blazer (recommended by you in a previous post) did. I tried it on yesterday and felt pretty good about how it came together…but seeing this post reassures me to go with it!
Heather! That outfit sounds darling! I think I’ll copy you with something similar from my closet! Happy Anniversary!
Nice looking outfit..
You look amazing in that dress!
