I have a new found love for turtlenecks as an under layer. In the recent past, I definitely shied away from turtlenecks as a base layer, unless it was under a sleeveless dress or shirt. I think I had mistakenly put them in the “frumpy, old and bulky” category when layering. I’m not sure what my deal was, but I’m back in love with turtlenecks as a base. Especially recently. I have the the tissue tee turtlenecks from J. Crew to thank. They are by far my favorite turtlenecks because that are cotton, lightweight and not bulky.
I recently wore it under a cream sweater (above). Usually, I would not think to wear a turtleneck under this sweater because of the neckline, but I love the contrast at the neck and sleeves! You can even see a little of the black through the cream sweater, and it doesn’t bother me one bit. Frankly, I don’t let little things like this stop me while dressing. It’s my rebellion against my perfectionist days.
Then I realized it’s also a great base layer if you have a sweater with the those darn side slits that go up too high!
I saw this outfit in J. Crew and thought it was cute!
I think the turtleneck is going to add lots of versatility to my winter wardrobe, and I can’t wait to keep experimenting with this look! Follow along on Instagram to see the outfits immediately!

I’ve always been a turtleneck lover! Especially a black turtleneck. It will take you anywhere. Instant chic! Great layering idea.

I just recently got into turtlenecks too! Madewell has some thin ones that are great for layering also. I have 2 😬 and both are striped…of course!

Of course! Can one have too many stripes?
