As I shared on Instastories, growing up we didn’t really have a big vacation budget. Our family vacations were often staying at the deer leases of the oil and gas company my dad worked for, going camping, or taking the camper to small towns across the beautiful state of Texas. I have such fond memories of those times, which is why my husband and I jumped at the opportunity to buy a little place in the country. Thank you for asking me to share about our country place on Instastories. I loved reading your messages! You all have the best ideas!

I’m standing on the front porch here with my new favorite dress from Anthropologie, and soon there will be black porch swings hanging where I’m standing. (Happy birthday to me!) Now, the question is which way they’ll face… thanks for your votes!
On Sunday, after we watched church on TV and took a little drive (I was feeling a bit stir crazy), we hung out on the porch all day. Like I touched on in a previous post on Instagram, something I love about this time is getting reacquainted with myself. Having my regular routine stripped away, along with lots and lots of other “commitments”, has given me a lot of time to think about what I need to do to help myself, what I enjoy doing, what grounds me and makes me feel good. There’s a lot that goes into that, like my morning routine (coffee, morning alignment (aka quiet time), exercise).
For instance, even though I saw no one but my husband and my boys on Sunday, it made me feel so good to put this dress on. I think that’s such an important thing to realize. I didn’t wear this dress for anyone but myself. My boys and husband couldn’t care less what I wear, but it boosted my mood. It made ME feel good.
One of the things I know to be true is that getting dressed is NOT a shallow endeavor! As a personal stylist, I’ve seen it get people out of a funk time and time again. It can be an important part of self-care! During my “normal” (non-corona) day to day life, I forgot this point. I have to get dressed every day for work and life, so after the first week and half of being so excited that I didn’t have to get dressed every day wore off, I remembered that getting dressed is important to me! I need to do it for myself!
But whatever I wear right now, it has to be comfortable! This dress from Anthropologie is extremely comfortable. It doesn’t hug the middle and has pockets, so I could hang out on the porch all day without ever wanting to take it off. I think that’s so important right now. I have to be comfortable in what I put on, or else I’ll just want to take it off immediately! Being comfortable is equally as important for my psyche. I mean, no one likes to feel something tight on them right now. It does a whole bunch of things in the brain… I won’t even go there. We all know the feeling.
Now I get why the “house dress” was such a BIG thing back in the day!! It’s cute and makes me feel good, but it’s comfortable enough to wear in the house all day! I guess this is my modern day house dress for these Corona times! Anthropologie has so many cute, comfortable dresses right now! And, they’re offering free shipping on orders over $50!
Here are a few other dresses from Anthroplogie that I would love to lounge around in:
