What’s a Sloppy Tuck Anyway and A How To

So, to be perfectly honest, I never quite got the sloppy tuck. I would see it in the J. Crew catalog and wonder, “Why do they do that, what’s the point?”. Well, I am an ever evolving person with evolving opinions and I’ve been won over. I’ll show you why.

Check out this outfit. The shirt untucked just hangs and doesn’t really do anything for me. The shirt is hitting me at an awkward place and makes me look somewhat slouchy.

Now check out my outfit. Did I win you over? If I did, here’s how to achieve the sloppy tuck:

First, tuck in the front of your shirt. Then, raise your arms up to untuck your shirt. Raise them really high if you want more to untuck, but don’t raise them as high if you want less to untuck. Next, take one side and give it a slight tug. This is how you make the tuck look a little more sloppy and not so perfect.

You may find that not all your sloppy tucks need to be pulled out on one side.

You may also find that you like it tucked in all the way around with the sloppy look in the front.

I liked the back untucked on this specific shirt and well, sometimes you just may want to cover the butt. Although, I’m sure I would look at most of you that want to cover your butt like you’re crazy. Coming from someone with no butt, please embrace it- ha! Viola- The Sloppy Tuck!

Have been working on a half tuck all week at work. And I learned a new trick- pinch center, twist (under) and to the side, then tuck and blouse. Works almost everytime. Can’t believe the timing if your post!

Love this post! Such a simple concept but certainly helps to explain why it works 🙂

I know exactly which shirt I’m going to be trying this with – thank you! It makes so much sense (and I do have a butt and HIPS, hello, thank you mom, so I try to embrace my hourglass figure. . . but I do love your slim, trim look!).
