In February, I was so bored of the denim in my closet. It was all starting to look the same, so I went shopping to see what new denim trends I could get excited about! While I was shopping at a boutique here in Houston (French Cuff), I was telling the sales associate about my boredom, so we began to brainstorm. She had the great idea of looking for a pair of flare denim that I could wear with flats. That’s when the light bulb went off! I have a pair of flares in my closet!! They are too long to wear with flats (no wonder I wasn’t wearing them), so I decided to cut them off!! I chronicled the whole thing on Instagram Stories.
Here, I’m showing how long they are. They needed a major chop!
Once I established how much I needed to cut them by folding the denim under so it barely skimmed the floor, I marked 3.5″ all the way around.
Then I put tape all the way around my jeans just above my marks, and…
…cut!
I wasn’t sure whether I should leave the edge raw or not, so I took a poll.
I’m so glad I did, because 72% liked the raw edge! I loved getting a clear answer!
Look how cute they turned out!! I’ve worn them a ton since I cut them off, and I’ve never received so many compliments on one pair of jeans in my entire life! I’m wearing the Forever Karlie Flare by FRAME. You can find them here and here.
I hope you have a pair of flares you can cut off in your closet! And if I haven’t convinced you of the cuteness, maybe Caroline Lee Radzwill can…
I ran across this picture on Instagram after I had cut my denim, and I’m not going to lie, it gave me a major boost of confidence! And look, her flares have a raw edge!
