So the crop top sweater/shirt is still trending this fall, and once again, I’m trying to come up with cute ways to make it work for me. I mean, I didn’t even wear crop tops when I was a teenager, so why would I now?! However, I realized from a styling point of view that crop tops can be a very flattering way to define a waistline. They have the same effect as a color block tee or dress. But how do we make crop tops work for the normal gal (me)? Last year we talked about putting a flowy tunic like this one under a crop top (post here). You can also see this trick in the dressing room pic below.
Here I layered the Madewell sleeveless tee under the crop top instead of a tunic. Well, this year I’ve come up with another solution- my high-waisted jeans!
Outfit Links: Top- Madewell; Jeans- AG; Shoes- Puma; Sunglasses- Ray-Ban; Purse- Similar here, here and here; Watch- Kate Spade
Why didn’t I think of this last year? I have two pairs of high-waisted jeans that I love, one blue and one grey. Now, before you turn up your nose at high-waisted jeans, let me reassure you that they can actually feel extremely stabilizing and sliming for the mid-section. I’ve had clients tell me their favorite pair of jeans are the high-waisted ones that they thought they’d hate. My favorite high waisted jeans are here and here.
Alright, count me in on the crop top trend! I hope you will consider it, too! When done right, they can be cute and flattering!
P.S. Here’s what else I purchased at Madewell:
Chambray shirt- Madewell
Plaid shirt- Madewell
And then I saw this one online, and I had to have it. Eeeek!
