My House

If you follow me on Instagram, then you know we just put our house on the market. This is very bittersweet for me. I feel like half of my soul is in this house. I not only had my babies here, but we also renovated and added on to the house when my second son was a newborn (STUPID!). Although we had an amazing contractor, it just wasn’t as easy as HGTV makes it look. In fact, it was one of the most difficult things I’ve ever done!

One of the hardest things about being a blogger is deciding what to share. My friend Lauren, from Sunday Beach Blog, put it perfectly: when you post stuff, a lot of times you are just assuming people care. This is so hard for me because you may not really care what my house looks like, or that I put my house on the market. You might be rolling your eyes and wondering where the fashion tips are. But, quite a few of you have asked me to post my house and since we had pictures taken for the local real estate website, I thought this was the perfect opportunity. Plus, when I was renovating, I scoured Pinterest for ideas and I appreciated the people that posted their homes and ideas. Granted, a lot of those pictures were professionally styled, but well, that didn’t happen here -ha!

This is the view as you walk in the front door. Our house is in the 100 year flood plain, so if you add on in our area, you have to add up. Hence the stairs. However, it ended up being our favorite part about the addition. My sister has said that often “the best designs come from restrictions”.

I’ve been told that in New Orleans they incorporate this design often, but I don’t remember what they call it… Anyone? It’s not split level, it’s called…

We kept the original counters but added a white, subway tile back splash. We also painted the dark wood cabinets white.

I used to have cookbooks on the cute little book shelf, but then the boys would constantly pull them onto the floor. I kept having to clean them up, so one day I got smart and moved them.

My favorite place in the entire house, my bed. Don’t mind all the cords and our must have sleep mate (link) -ha!

This is what I will miss most about this house. I will be leaving the swing behind and it makes me sad. I’ve had so many wonderful memories swinging with all my boys on this swing. It came with those blue and white cushions and I never had time to recover them, and now I love the fabric. I think it’s just my sentimental side coming out -ha!
