I’ve been wanting to share this tip with you all for a very long time, and now I finally have the occasion! This is probably one of the best tips I can ever give you guys, so are you ready?!?!
I was thinking about how excited I am to actually have a cute themed t-shirt to wear on Valentine’s Day (yes, I think about silly things like this), when I remembered what I did to this t-shirt. That led me to sharing today’s very important tip! You see, I loved this t-shirt when I purchased it, but after wearing it once or twice, the neckline started to bother me. It was only cut about an inch, and it didn’t look right. It felt a little too buttoned up for me. When I would come across the shirt in my closet, the little voice in my head would say, “No, not that shirt. Remember the neckline?”. Luckily since I have experience in such matters, I heard the little voice and immediately took action. I grabbed my nice sewing scissors and cut open the neckline more! That’s right, I cut my t-shirt! Don’t be afraid to modify!! Now I love it and the little voice in my head is gone. I can’t wait to wear it on Valentine’s Day!
I use this trick all the time and have shared it with my friends, family and clients, too! For instance, my husband purchased a really nice navy cashmere hoodie that had a yellow string going through the hood. I noticed that he wasn’t wearing it very much, and then I noticed that he was trying to hide the yellow string by tucking it into his sweater. I thought to myself, “Ah-ha!, He doesn’t like the yellow string!”. I convinced him to take it out and now he wears his sweater all the time! He was apprehensive because it cost so much, but don’t let that trip you up. It’s worse to not wear it! Another time, I was with my friend, and she opened a package from Anthropologie of a vest she purchased online. The only thing was that it wasn’t a vest, it had sleeves! She loved it, but she didn’t like the sleeves. What did I tell her to do? Yup, cut the sleeves! Don’t let something being new trip you up either! If you love it, make it work! If you are not wearing it and you can modify it, MODIFY IT! Whether it’s new, expensive or you can ruin it, it’s better to take the chance than for it to sit in your closet. What are you going to modify?
