How to Avoid the Caked on Makeup Look

IT Cosmetics CC cream

My early days of wearing makeup have left me with a slight paranoia. Do you remember the Cover Girl pressed powder in the old tortoise shell compact? The one that would go on thick and leave your makeup looking caked on with a slight orange tint? Hahaha! Well I do, and since then, a slight paranoia was born. But here’s the problem, I actually need, and like, full coverage makeup because my skin is splotchy (red in some places, and not in others). For this reason, I’m hooked on CC (color correcting) creams. I started using the IT Cosmetics CC cream. I love that it evens out my skin, but unfortunately, it still looked too caked on for my taste.

That’s when I decided to make my own “beauty cocktail.” That’s what I heard a beauty expert call it anyway. I’m a fanatic about wearing sunscreen on my face every day (for obvious reasons), so I decided to add a little dollop of my sunscreen to my cc cream. I rubbed my hands together to mix the two and then put it on my face like I apply my moisturizer (all over). Viola! It’s full coverage without looking cakey! The sunscreen made the CC cream less thick and much easier to apply. If you look closely in the picture, you can still see my freckles (or are those moles?). Either way, I like them! Then I add under eye concealer for full coverage under the eye. If for some reason I didn’t get my cocktail just right and the CC cream looks a little too thick, I’ll take a piece of toilet paper and pat my face to get any excess make up off (like when you’re getting the grease off a piece of pizza -ha!). See I told you, I’m a little paranoid. Anyway, if you find yourself in the same situation, try adding a sunblock or moisturizer to thin out your base/foundation/cc cream! Oh, and if you are looking for a new cc cream, under eye concealer or sunscreen, I highly recommend all three! I am wearing light in both the cc cream and the concealer, but they come in multiple shades.
