Well, it’s that time of year in Houston- Rodeo season! Believe it or not, this is one of the subjects I get the most questions about. I love that you guys ask me because I love the Rodeo and Houston, so I’m happy to share! After all, I did attend the Rodeo nine times my 8th grade year -ha! (thank you, TG).
I’ve written a few posts on this subject over the years. Here are a few tips to help you get ready for the Rodeo!
A pretty poncho is a great way to achieve the rodeo/western look! I also love wearing white jeans with boots on a sunny day! See my “Sunny Vibes” post for more on this look.
One of the easiest ways to achieve the rodeo/western look is by throwing on a piece of turquoise! See “How To: Cowgirl Chic” for more.
I pulled out all the stops in for this look -ha! I found this western shirt at a vintage clothing booth in Round Top, and I added warmth by layering a chambray shirt under the western shirt and a leather vest on top. This is an easy way to add warmth instead of wearing a jacket. I also loved wearing my black coated denim with my brown boots. See my “Birthday Weekend Outfits” post to see the details of this look.
When in doubt, pair your boots with black leggings or jeggings. I remember doing this when I was pregnant. See “Winning Combination” for more on this look.
Don’t feel like wearing skinny jeans or leggings? Flare jeans look so cute with cowboy boots! See “Cowgirl Chic” post for more on this look.
Find a pretty western top and you’ve got yourself an outfit. One of my sister’s and my favorite places to find pretty tops is Lucky. See my “City Slicker” post for more detail on this look.
Have an old leather vest? Done. Throw it on with some boots! See my “Legend” post for more details on this look.
When in doubt, wear all black and make a big statement with your necklace! If you don’t have cowboy boots, wear brown boots/booties that you have in your closet! See “Layer It” for more details on this look.
Wow! Who knew I dressed western so much?!? I surprised myself! Ha! I guess I shouldn’t be surprised since I was raised by a dad who loves nothing more than to wear a cowboy hat, boots and to drive his tractor. It makes me feel better about my recent purchase of black lizard cowboy boots! Ha!

These are great! Can you do a cowboy boot roundup? I want some but don’t want to spend $500

Hi Lauren, I will try my hardest, but in the meantime here’s a link to the boots I’m wearing in the post: (http://bit.ly/2onMhW1). They are under $500. I also really like these under $200 boots (http://bit.ly/2CbqASd) and these that are a little over $350 (http://bit.ly/2onGb8d).
