It’s the most wonderful time of the year! Round Top is here! “Round Top”, as the regulars call it, is an antique fair that takes place among the green pasture fields of Round Top, TX. There are white tents full of antiques and trinkets lining the fields along the main road through Round Top and surrounding towns!
It’s a tradition that my aunt and cousins come in from Dallas, and we meet up to shop “the fields”. To me, there is nothing better than the green countryside of Texas (I grew up going on family vacations to deer leases in Texas, so it’s nostalgic for me) and being with my family. But here’s the thing, it is HOT! We girls like to look cute, but we know we’ve got to be practical, prepared and wear the right thing, or we’ll be miserable! But, we will also be miserable if we don’t feel cute (shallow? Maybe… truth? Yes.). So, of course, my sister and I used it as the perfect excuse to go shopping!
Here’s the 411 on what to wear in Round Top:
Common staples: A fun hat to protect you from the sun and fun accessories are a common staple for women walking the fields. Fun earrings, necklaces, bangles… you name it, you’ll see it!
Shoes: Wear shoes that cover your toes, like sneakers or cowboy boots. I don’t like wearing sandals because my feet get really dirty in the fields, but my aunt doesn’t care! She said she’d rather have her feet dirty than hot and sweaty! But, you’ll possibly be moving furniture, getting in and out of cars, potentially jumping ditches and running across the two lane highway, so wear something you can move in.
Clothes:
Gauzy, flowy, lightweight, cotton tops are the way to go when shopping in the fields of Round Top. That way your shirt won’t stick to you from your sweat, and you’ll still feel cute.
Here’s the tops we found:
Top I’m wearing an xxs.
Top I’m wearing an xs. They didn’t have the xxs in the store.
What to wear with a flowy tops- Usually, we wear our lightweight tops with denim shorts and sneakers or cowboy boots. Throw on a fun accessory, like a statement earring or straw hat, and viola!
Here are some other flowy tops I love:
Sundresses are also pretty popular out in the fields. Sundresses make sense because, once again, they disguise the sweat drip.
Here’s what we found:
Dress I’m wearing the an xs.
Throw on some fun earrings and some boots and you’ll be the cutest person in the fields.
Here are some other sundresses I love:
Now, if you’re going in the spring when the temps could be a bit cooler, you can wear a cute long sleeve top!
Top I’m wearing a size 2.
Top I’m wearing an xs.
I’d wear these tops with jeans and boots. I’d add some fun accessories, maybe even a chunky belt, and call it a day.
I guess with every outfit, there’s a fine balance between looking cute and being comfortable, but it is never more important than when you’re sweating your tail off in the fields.
Happy antiquing!

I wish I lived in Round Top just to go to shopping in the fields! Sounds so fun! What jeans are you wearing in all the pics?

Hi Carly- thank you for this post!!! I love it when you reveal Round Top wear!!! You are so right about the required covered shoes. The first year that we went the red ants bit each member of our group in different tents. It was excruciating. I now bring sandals for dinner that evening, but cute shoes are too risky for red ants, or for what gets left behind in cow pastures after the cows are escorted off property during Antiques Week… Boots or sneakers are always right.
Truly, I need to start photographing all the great outfits and accessories that I see because I try to replicate them from memory when I get home. Do you ever make it to morning one of Marburger?
Carly Lee says
Hi! I have a goal to make it to morning one of Marburger, but thus far, I haven’t been able to make it happen. Is it amazing? Do I need to hire a sitter and make it happen?!?!

I love Day 1 early entrance at Marburger!!! I think that at sometime you must go. Given your love for making people feel beautiful in their clothes, and the way that you like to put interesting accessories together, I do think you should do early morning on Day 1 Marburger at some point. It is the best people watching that I have seen in Texas. It’s quirky, and it’s more upscale eclectic Texan style. We have done Day 1 several times. Day 2 and after has always been completely different. (Fewer people, less accessorizing, different feeling altogether. Not bad at all- just not the same.) Day 1 gals have fantastic tops and necklaces and earrings. Given that it can be a sweltering 100 during the fall shows, that is a feat to pull off. It does not matter their ages. They bring it. It is inspiring. You will also see estate jewelry on display on the patrons- and that is as much fun to see as the antiques in the tents. The caveat: up here in North Dallas the rain has been so dramatic, and the temperatures so unpredictable in the last weeks for September, that I fear weather may hinder the glory that is Day 1. (Raincoats. Galoshes. Mud. Fewer people.) If you do not do it this fall, plan for the spring. Day 1 Marburger this past Spring was perfect weather. Much better than the last few fall starts to Antiques Week. So yep- when you go, get a sitter. But you can do it in the spring if we have wacky weather next week. I hope that helps!

Oh, Ginni! You have me very excited! You know me so well! This is now at the very top of my list of things to do this year, thanks to you! If you see me, will you say “Hi!” Thank you so much for the insight! How did you know I love estate jewelry?!?- Ha! Who doesn’t?!?

Hi! Hahaha! You will not look like Jesse from Toy Story, I promise! I really like Luchesse Boots. I think they make a really great product, high quality and comfortable. Here’s a link to the boots you are referring to ->http://bit.ly/2MYfjpy I’ve also added them to my “Favorite Boots” page (shop-> shop my favorites-> Favorites Boots). P.S. I think I’m going to wear my new black cowboys boots all winter long instead of black booties!
Thanks for reading!

Yay Carly!!! Of course I will say hi!! I do think that you will enjoy it, and you will likely find some great treasures. People swarm on Day 1 and snap up so many things that I always wonder what will be left for the rest of the week, ha! I cannot wait for Tuesday! I hope to see you there!!!
