I shared on Instastories that with my new found respect for Christmas cards (post here), I decided to frame and make a gallery wall of my Christmas cards. I shared this on Instastories:
So, I went on the Framebridge website, uploaded a picture I took on my phone of each card to see what they would look like in the frame and chose an accent mat color for each card. I chose the same white Irvine frame for all of them and waited for them to send me a box to ship all my cards to them.
The box arrived, and I placed all my cards in the box and shipped it back…
Two weeks later, all of my framed Christmas cards started to arrive! One frame did not have the corresponding mat color I payed for, so I’ll be sending it back.
I laid them out on my floor to get an idea of how I wanted to arrange them up my stairs. I took a picture of my arrangement, so I could go back and look at it.
Then I put a guiding line using painters tape going up the stairwell. I knew I needed some kind of starting point.
I started with the middle picture of my arrangement and placed it in the middle of my guiding line.
Then, I placed all the other frames around it, letting the middle picture be my guide. I also referred back to the picture I took of the arrangement on the floor, and viola!!!
A couple of tips from this perfectionist:
Done is better than perfect! If I would have measured and tried to get this just perfect, it never would have happened.
I powered through knowing I was going to mess up along the way and just started nailing them up there. Some of them I had to adjust. Mostly, the nail holes that were mistakes were covered up by the pictures, but if not, I used toothpaste to fill in the holes.
Also, adjust as you go and don’t get too picky. When I got to the right side of my arrangement, I realized if I were to nail it just as I had it on the floor, those two pictures would be very low, so I just nailed them higher. Also, the picture on the left is a little close to the window, but I plan to keep filling this stairwell with more and more pictures, so in the end, you won’t even notice it.
All those tips to say, just go for it! Nail away, use small nails, and get your toothpaste ready to fill in the mistakes!

Love this idea! Also an idea is to use the command strips so you don’t have to make holes in your walls. That’s all we’ve used in our new house & nothing has fallen yet!!
That’s a great idea! I wish command tips would work on my walls. Last time I used a command strip to hang a picture it the plaster/paint detached from the sheet rock, and it left a big hole. I’m thinking our walls are too old?
