A Boy’s Room

C.Style Blog

I’m pretty excited about this post! I don’t typically post interior spaces, but I have been having a ton of fun decorating my house and wanted to share. During my extended break, I realized that I was also putting pressure on myself to have a perfectly decorated house (why?- post here). You know, a house that looks like the magazines. For some reason, once I became a grown up, I thought I had to decorate like a grown up (aka perfectly). It suddenly felt so intimidating and overwhelming! Where did my eclectic, quirky, resourceful (working with what I have) decorating style go?!?! Back in the day, I would decorate my apartments without a care for what it was supposed to look like, and it was fun! I have no fear when being creative with my clothes, so why not carry this concept into my house?!? I’m bringing the fun back! I’m bringing my eclectic, quirky, resourceful decorating style back! My son’s room is the perfect example of this realization coming to life…

C.Style Blog

My son needed a nightstand and a desk. Well, I didn’t have either, so I stole the table I had in the playroom (they never, ever sat at it anyway) and used it for both! It’s a nightstand and a desk all in one!

C.Style Blog

I originally had the standard pillow behind the red pillow, but it felt like it needed something in the back, like a Euro sham. Well, who needs a Euro sham when you have giant stuffed animals?!?! Bingo! I was also racking my brain trying to come up with a fun way to display my son’s Legos. Then it came to me! What about the bookshelf in the living room that is holding old Reader’s Digests?!?! Bingo! I think my bookshelf got an upgrade! I purchased the chest at the foot of the bed from Round Top many years ago, and it’s the perfect storage solution to stash Legos!

C.Style BlogIt’s amazing how fun toys can look when arranged nicely together! It won’t stay like this for long, but for now it sure looks pretty! My husband found the pennants at an antique store around the corner from our house. I taped them to the wall, because… why not?!

C.Style Blog

I purchased these nautical buoys from Round Top when my son was a baby. I loved them in his nursery, and I still love them in his big boy room. The colors are so vibrant and fun! I am still in love with his “Work Like a Captain, Play Like a Pirate” poster from Etsy that I used to have hanging over his crib!

C.Style Blog

My son’s room would not be complete without a Star Wars poster! He loves Star Wars! I’ll be honest, I was a little apprehensive about putting up the Star Wars poster, but I got over myself and now I love it!
C.Style Blog

What do fish sheets, Star Wars pillowcases, pennants, nautical buoys, a Lego display, mismatched stuffed animals, snow globes, a Star Wars poster and a Ninjago clock have in common? Nothing! But it’s fun, colorful, and happy! Isn’t that how a room should be? Now I have to figure out how to make Pokemon cards looks cool- ha! Any ideas?
C.Style Blog

I saved the best picture for last! This is what it’s all about.

A special thanks to my sister (@tellittoyourneighbor), a real interior designer, for helping me with my house and for sending me ideas! We have so much fun creating together! The creative cycle is what makes these two sisters tick! I hope this post got your creative juices going! My son’s room is a perfect example of what happens when you give up on perfect and bring the fun back! Now you know why I keep texting my sister pictures of the house with the caption “I’m back!”!

Many of the objects from the room were found out and about, but here are the items I could find on the internet:

Fish sheets- here, Blue iron beds- here, Bookshelf- here

Happy Creating!

Do you want new hair growth in your eyebrows? I ha Do you want new hair growth in your eyebrows? I have a trick, and no, it’s not an expensive hair growth serum! It’s Castor Oil, so it’s all natural and inexpensive. Apparently, it’s been used for thousands of years dating back to ancient Egypt. Ok, and I use it on my eyelashes, too, but I’m doing that at my own risk. I don’t want to recommend this practice, since I don’t really know what it’s going to do to my eyesight. I know, call me crazy- it’s fine.

Thanks to my friend, Michelle for telling me about this little trick!

Comment “oil” for links to both the Castor Oil and the wands I use. #beautytips #beauty #eyebrows #beautyproducts
I attended a funeral today of a friend who died of I attended a funeral today of a friend who died of mental illness. If my friend is strong enough to stand at the podium and talk about her husband and the hope her family has in the midst of their darkest days, then I want to honor both of them by telling you about my struggle with mental illness. My friend mentioned that many of her husband’s closest friends had no idea that he’d been struggling with mental illness for 3 years, and I realized that many of you, and probably some of my closest friends don’t know how long and hard my struggle has been with mental illness. For me my mental illness wasn’t the kind where I couldn’t get out of bed or out of the house, which would make it hard to tell I was struggling. For me it looked more like battling through the day and struggling with my own self condemning thoughts and emotions - shaming myself for being happy one minute and sad the next, or for not being happy all the time, looking around at all my blessings and not feeling gratitude, which made me feel like there was something wrong with me. It was hard to get excited. On some days I walked around feeling like a scared puppy in a big bad world with my emotions right at the surface. For me, my faith is very important to me, and I knew this was not the life God had for me, so I started to pray for help and deliverance. God started to lead me to help in a whole bunch of different forms, counselors, health practitioners, friends, medicine, trauma therapy, EMDR, books, excercise, the support of family, and most importantly, Christ and His word.
For me, it was over a 10 year battle probably because I was overcoming a lot of trauma being raised by an alcoholic mom. But for you it may be longer or shorter or this isn’t something you struggle with at all (hallelujah!). If you do, your emotions and your struggle may be different. But I’m here to say, you’re loved. You are loved by God and by so many of the people around you. Don’t give up. Dig in and fight the battle that’s happening in your mind. Fight it like you would if you had cancer. #mentalhealth #mentalhealthawareness #mentalillness #mentalhealthmatters

Takes me right back to my middle school days, and I’m not sad about it! And yes, that’s what my closet looked like after trying to figure those outfits out, but it was fun! 🤷🏼‍♀️

How to get the cuffed denim look without buying a How to get the cuffed denim look without buying a new pair of jeans! You don’t need to buy a new pair of jeans to get the cuffed denim look! Just grab a pair of straight leg jeans from your closet, cuff them to be about an inch or 2 above the top of your ankle bone and use the nifty little gadget from this tutorial. Viola! Plus, the cuffed denim length makes it a heck of a lot easier to wear most of the shoes in your closet! #winning
