Top 10 Summer Essentials

Processed with VSCOcam with f2 preset Processed with VSCO with f2 preset

When I go shopping with clients, we always start off chatting about what essentials they’re missing for the season and then come up with a gameplan. I thought it might be helpful for you to hear what I consider the top essentials for the summer season, so you can fill in the gaps in your closet. I also thought I would share my favorites from every category. Here are what I consider the top 10 summer essentials.

//Shorts– I wrote about the best shorts EVER here. I’ve been so pleased to read so many of your emails and comments about much you all love them, too!

//Tees– By the time another summer rolls around, my t-shirt are worn out. They have holes in them and/or armpit stains. My favorite casual v-neck tees are here, and I like these for a dressier v-neck tee. My favorite sleeveless tee is here, and my favorite crew neck tee is here.

//Dress up/dress down tops- These are tops that can be worn casually with shorts or dressy with white jeans. I prefer them to be flow-y so they don’t show my sweat and are comfy. This is why I love Mexican tops! Here are the five dress up/dress down tops I purchased this summer.

//White jeans– White jeans are still in vogue, and although they can be a total pain to shop for, they are still a staple. I have this pair and have modified them a bit, so stay posted.

// Sundresses– When you are sweating profusely, sometimes a flow-y sundress is about all you can wear comfortably. I also really love it when my sundress can be worm as a cover-up, like I’ve been doing with these from this post.

//Cover-ups– Well, when you’re constantly trying to escape the heat for an entire season by dipping into different bodies of water, a cover up is pretty essential!

//A neutral summer sandal and a neutral summer bag- I have about three neutral summer bag/sandal combinations I keep going to. I’m wearing these neutral suede sandals with this bag and this bag, depending on whether I’m dressy or casual. For the 3rd summer in a row, I’m wearing these K. Jacques with this saddle bag. And for a gold sandal, I keep switching between these two sandals (here and here).

//A casual pair of summer jeans- Due to the the heat, a dressy pair of dark jeans doesn’t really make sense, but a casual pair of summer jeans does make sense. You can achieve the casual look by buying a lighter blue wash, a distressed pair, or a boyfriend jean.

//A swimsuit- Obviously this is an essential. Ha! You can find a swimsuit guide here and here.

//A strapless bra– I thought this summer was going to be my cutest summer yet because of my new strapless bra (the best strapless bra ever), and I was right!

//Sunscreen– I have already posted about this sunscreen, but I think it deserves another shout out. I have been using it a ton this summer, and I just keep liking it more and more. This is a sunscreen that doesn’t have harmful chemicals! Need I say more?!?! It’s also great because it doesn’t sting my son’s sensitive skin. I’ve been putting it on my face every morning. It doesn’t smell like typical sunscreen, it smells like normal lotion. Oh, and it’s not greasy! I just bought a huge pump bottle of it to keep out.

    Good morning!!

How does the white Anthro tie top run, sizing wise? I feel like their stuff always runs a bit smaller than other stores. I’m torn between a Small and Medium.

    Great catching up last night!!

Hey Whitney, I’m so sorry. I’m just now seeing your comment! You definitely should order the small. I’m sorry I didn’t get to say “hi” at the 4th celebration. You rocked that race!

I ordered the top in small and I LOVE it. I’m so glad you pointed it out because I needed a white cotton sleeveless top for the hot summer. Thank you!!

Ha! I’m hoping no one else noticed the race was happening. I felt bad telling my daughter that I couldn’t (or wouldn’t) do it with her. Admittedly the Planters Punch beforehand made me more agreeable to it.

Fun seeing you this morning – hope you enjoyed class.

Do you want new hair growth in your eyebrows? I ha Do you want new hair growth in your eyebrows? I have a trick, and no, it’s not an expensive hair growth serum! It’s Castor Oil, so it’s all natural and inexpensive. Apparently, it’s been used for thousands of years dating back to ancient Egypt. Ok, and I use it on my eyelashes, too, but I’m doing that at my own risk. I don’t want to recommend this practice, since I don’t really know what it’s going to do to my eyesight. I know, call me crazy- it’s fine.

Thanks to my friend, Michelle for telling me about this little trick!

Comment “oil” for links to both the Castor Oil and the wands I use. #beautytips #beauty #eyebrows #beautyproducts
I attended a funeral today of a friend who died of I attended a funeral today of a friend who died of mental illness. If my friend is strong enough to stand at the podium and talk about her husband and the hope her family has in the midst of their darkest days, then I want to honor both of them by telling you about my struggle with mental illness. My friend mentioned that many of her husband’s closest friends had no idea that he’d been struggling with mental illness for 3 years, and I realized that many of you, and probably some of my closest friends don’t know how long and hard my struggle has been with mental illness. For me my mental illness wasn’t the kind where I couldn’t get out of bed or out of the house, which would make it hard to tell I was struggling. For me it looked more like battling through the day and struggling with my own self condemning thoughts and emotions - shaming myself for being happy one minute and sad the next, or for not being happy all the time, looking around at all my blessings and not feeling gratitude, which made me feel like there was something wrong with me. It was hard to get excited. On some days I walked around feeling like a scared puppy in a big bad world with my emotions right at the surface. For me, my faith is very important to me, and I knew this was not the life God had for me, so I started to pray for help and deliverance. God started to lead me to help in a whole bunch of different forms, counselors, health practitioners, friends, medicine, trauma therapy, EMDR, books, excercise, the support of family, and most importantly, Christ and His word.
For me, it was over a 10 year battle probably because I was overcoming a lot of trauma being raised by an alcoholic mom. But for you it may be longer or shorter or this isn’t something you struggle with at all (hallelujah!). If you do, your emotions and your struggle may be different. But I’m here to say, you’re loved. You are loved by God and by so many of the people around you. Don’t give up. Dig in and fight the battle that’s happening in your mind. Fight it like you would if you had cancer. #mentalhealth #mentalhealthawareness #mentalillness #mentalhealthmatters

Takes me right back to my middle school days, and I’m not sad about it! And yes, that’s what my closet looked like after trying to figure those outfits out, but it was fun! 🤷🏼‍♀️

How to get the cuffed denim look without buying a How to get the cuffed denim look without buying a new pair of jeans! You don’t need to buy a new pair of jeans to get the cuffed denim look! Just grab a pair of straight leg jeans from your closet, cuff them to be about an inch or 2 above the top of your ankle bone and use the nifty little gadget from this tutorial. Viola! Plus, the cuffed denim length makes it a heck of a lot easier to wear most of the shoes in your closet! #winning
